Best DEI Initiative

Generali Hong Kong

One insurer proves that meaningful diversity and inclusion are about transforming business from the inside out.

When an insurer virtually eliminates the gender pay gap in a market where 13% is the norm, it demonstrates what’s possible when diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) become core business priorities. This achievement is just one facet of Generali Hong Kong’s DEI approach that earned it the Best DEI Initiative award at the Asia Consumer Insurance Awards 2025.

Moving beyond traditional corporate boundaries, Generali Hong Kong has crafted a robust DEI framework that spans workplace policies, community engagement and product innovation. The company has essentially achieved gender balance and shattered the glass ceiling typically seen in financial services.

Generali Hong Kong’s commitment to inclusive hiring has been equally impactful, with staff members dealing with individual disabilities an integral part of the team. Through partnering with organisations such as CareER and WISE the company launched an Inclusive Internship Program that has successfully integrated differently abled students into the workplace.

The company is the driving force behind Hong Kong’s first-ever LGBTQI+ awareness video series, co-created in collaboration with local NGOs and community platforms. Partners were involved at every stage from content design to post-production. The series reached over 5 million views, becoming Hong Kong’s highest-performing insurance sector DEI campaign. Beyond digital initiatives, Generali Hong Kong actively supports community events, including Hong Kong’s largest community event, Pink Dot HK, and the Hong Kong Lesbian and Gay Film Festival, reinforcing its commitment to inclusion.

What sets Generali Hong Kong’s DEI program apart is employee engagement. The company achieved 100% staff participation in DEI activities, including townhalls, interactive sessions and inclusive celebrations.

The company-wide commitment is matched by leadership that walks the talk, with CEO Cecilia Chang and senior management actively championing these initiatives. She supports the Women’s Foundation’s Male Allies programme in Hong Kong and sponsors Generali LGBTQI+ employee resource group (ERG) “WeProud”, signalling a clear top-down commitment. The company has also amplified its impact by engaging with various stakeholders, such as employees, agents, and clients in DEI dialogues, catalysing change across the insurance
industry.

Generali Hong Kong believes that inclusion is essential to unlocking the full potential of its staff and effectively serving the diverse needs of its customers. The company’s DEI agenda is both a business imperative and an ethical commitment deeply embedded in its culture. This approach not only strengthens its ability to attract and retain exceptional talent but also nurtures a workplace where every individual feels valued, respected, and empowered to thrive.

DEI are not initiatives but commitments that shape who we are and how we serve as a Lifetime Partner.”
