Allianz has put cyber protection where financial risk occurs and where it matters most.

The scam problem in Singapore has moved well past the point where consumer education alone can solve it. Losses hit S$913.1m in 2025, and the methods have become sophisticated enough that victims are frequently people who considered themselves alert to the risk. Phishing, smishing, credential misuse and authorised transfers made under manipulation now sit in an awkward gap: too common to be treated as bad luck, too rarely covered by conventional personal lines policies to be treated as an insurable event.

Allianz Insurance Singapore, this year’s Innovative Personal Lines Product winner, launched Allianz Cyber Protect in December 2025 to occupy that gap. The cover extends to S$60,000, which is a meaningful figure; it is high enough to matter against the scale of losses now being reported, instead of a token sum attached for marketing purposes.

Crucially, the policy is written around how scams actually unfold, including authorised transfers made under manipulation. This is the category insurers have historically been most reluctant to touch, because the customer technically consented to the transaction.

The more interesting design decision is where it is sold. Developed with Allianz’s bancassurance partner, the product sits inside the bank’s digital banking environment, activated within the same journeys customers use to transfer money. That placement addresses the central problem with personal cyber insurance, which is that almost nobody wakes up intending to buy it.

Standalone cyber products have struggled for exactly this reason: the risk feels abstract until it isn’t, and by then the purchase window has closed. Putting the offer in front of someone at the moment they are moving funds is one of the few contexts in which the product’s relevance is self-evident. It also gives Allianz reach into a large, digitally active customer base.

Two additional features broaden the product’s relevance beyond traditional scam protection. Shopping Protection covers losses from non-delivery, defective goods and return disputes, extending the logic from outright fraud into the messier territory of e-commerce transactions that simply go wrong.

And a Cyber Assistance Hotline with specialist escalation support means the product does something in the hours immediately after an incident, when victims are typically improvising. Claims are also serviced locally, drawing on Allianz’s global expertise.

Building on the success of Allianz Cyber Protect, Allianz has now expanded access to similar protection through Allianz Scam Protect, available via its own distribution channels, including online. This helps ensure that more Singaporeans can benefit from protection against scam-related losses, regardless of where they choose to purchase their insurance.

“The fight against scams cannot rely on awareness alone. It requires protection that is practical, accessible and aligned to the way risks are evolving. That’s the thinking behind Allianz Cyber Protect, and we’re proud to see it recognised.”
