Outstanding Woman Leader
Cecilia Chang, CEO, Generali Hong Kong

Cecilia Chang has paired sharp commercial growth at Generali Hong Kong with a rebuilt internal culture, and the two turn out to be connected.

Outstanding leadership extends beyond financial performance. It is defined by the ability to set a clear direction, unite teams, and create sustainable progress for customers, employees and society.

This holistic approach has defined Cecilia Chang’s leadership as Chief Executive Officer of Generali Hong Kong, this year’s Outstanding Woman Leader.

Under her stewardship, Generali Hong Kong strengthened its position as an agile, innovative and purpose-driven insurer. She sharpened the company’s distribution strategy, strengthened customer and partner propositions, and fostered an entrepreneurial mindset across the business. Central to her leadership approach is building a culture where people feel a genuine sense of ownership in the company’s success.

She joined Generali in Hong Kong in 2016 and moved to Milan two years later as global head of financial lines and underwriting. She has led Generali Hong Kong as Chief Executive Officer since 2022. New business has grown significantly under her leadership, making Generali Hong Kong one of the city’s fastest-growing life insurers.

Digitalisation remains a cornerstone of her strategy, not for technology’s sake, but to deliver practical solutions. Generali Hong Kong has introduced digital initiatives — including an AI chatbot — that make customer and distributor interactions simpler, faster and more convenient, while advancing the application of artificial intelligence to enhance service quality and customer experience.

A reimagined agency model built on an employee-agent structure has delivered strong professional productivity and quality, reinforcing Generali Hong Kong’s differentiated position in the market.

Under her leadership, Generali Hong Kong introduced progressive and inclusive workplace practices, including modernised parental, marital and medical benefits designed to recognise diverse family structures and identities. She has also championed open dialogue, mentoring, flexible working arrangements and greater collaboration across teams, while a broad range of staff engagement initiatives accompanied a marked improvement in retention.

Chang’s commitment to inclusion extends beyond internal policies. It inspired Generali Hong Kong’s broader diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives, spanning women’s empowerment, LGBTQI+ awareness and other programmes that foster greater understanding and acceptance. She also mobilises colleagues, agents and partners to support broader social impact initiatives, while advancing sustainability as a core business priority.

“Leadership means combining commercial ambition with care, inclusion, and social impact, ensuring our sustainable growth creates lasting value beyond the business.”
